Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Me!

Full Name:  Sarah Elizabeth Krocker Bonilla, M.A.

Nickname: Reel Monkey

Birth Date: December 15, 1980

Title: Co-Owner of the Picture Show Pundits, Film Critic, Academic

Biography:

I'm originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I moved to North Carolina in May 2002 to be with Mac, who was then my fiancée, and to attend UNC-Chapel Hill for my graduate work in Romantic and Victorian Literature. After a rocky semester, I felt more and more inclined towards film studies and I made to leap over to NC State, which was also a good half hour closer to where I was/am living. I started in the Film Studies Masters program in the Spring of 2004, after spending three semesters dabbling in undergraduate film classes and encountering a screw-up with my application. I defended my Master's in November 2005 and in the Fall of 2006, I will be attending somewhere for my PhD in Film Studies. I hope to one day teach film studies (not filmmaking) at the college level.

As for my personal life? I married Mac in February 2004 on our seven year anniversary. We have two cats and a beagle, who we adore very much. I have three academic papers published (two are for CHARiS and the other is my Master's Thesis). I just finished writing my Master's Thesis on the image of the nun in films from America and Great Britain 1945-present. I also participated in the 2005 New Voices in Irish Criticism Conference in Limerick Ireland.

Interests:

I love all types of film, from indie to Hollywood and beyond. I have one filmmaker I absolutely hate more than anything and that's Jean Luc Godard. I personally feel Francois Truffaut was much more influential in film history than Godard. My favorite film book is Kevin Murphy's A Year at the Movies and my absolute favorite movie of all time is Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

I also enjoy reading and watching a random television show here and there. Traveling is another one of my passions and film festivals aide me in my quest for adventure.

Favorite Quote:

"Then there's this shrink, and a flower delivery guy, and feet being massaged, a horrible lack of anything Jedi or monkey related." ~ Macabre Stalker, Timecode
